1. What new skills, techniques and knowledge have you learnt from producing the preliminary activity?
what I have learnt from doing the preliminary activity is that using techniques like creating a shot list and a script can really help to get the job done quickly and efficiently. We didn't stand around trying to organised ourselves in the scene, instead we knew what we were doing and that helped us to produce it to the best possible standard. I also learnt the different camera angles that are required to make a trailer/scene look professional, as it will add diversity to the piece. 2. How did you work with other people in your production team? What role did you play in the production? Would you have done anything differently?
Working with other people in the production team required doing research into existing horror movie trailers on youtube. This helped to inspire us for our own product. This help me create a list of themes within a horror movie that we would have to include in the final result. After choosing our favourite idea, including the characters we would be playing and the things they would say, we create the storyline and made a script. We also used a storyboard of shots that we would perform. We worked as a team to record it, with each of us using the camera at different times so that we all got a feel for the handheld camera both with and without a tripod. 3. What parts of the process did you find most challenging? How did you overcome this?
The part of the process of making the preliminary activity that I found the most challenging was putting the clips together. When it came to using IMovie, it was new to me and so I had to find out how to work it to make the scenes look their best. Due to some of the clips being within a darker environment the trailer didn't look like it was good quality. When using IMovie, I had to changing the lighting using the tools on the software to make it look better, which improved the overall look. The trailer still appeared dull, and so then I decided to insert music from Purple Planet in order to create a mood, which would have an impact on the audience.4. How successful was your final product? Did it meet your expectations? What are its strengths? What would you do to improve it if you were to do it again? Does it effectively make use of narrative, genre and representation?
I believe that considering it was our first time creating a product like a trailer it was successful. It could've been better if we inserted cuts in the trailer in a fasr pace as that is something associated with horror movie trailers. The strengths of the trailer would be the use of transitions created with IMovie that help the trailer to flow smoothly, as well as the narrative within the piece for explaining the overall storyline of the movie and who the characters are. This narrative successfully shows the genre of the movie as being horror because it shows there is something to fear within the girls friendship group. If we were to do it again, I would probably look to include more characters who are involved with the main girls to show that there are more victims, making the trailer more interesting.
