Movie Magazine: Masthead

To create my own masthead for my movie magazine, I looked at ones from existing magazines. The conventions of these are bold fonts that are clear, bright colours like the red and white, no italics or underlining, and some of them have the actors over the writing. For inspiration, I tried the white and red with my own fonts and title, as well as trying out different colours that will suit the movie genre, like blue and black (seen on other movie magazines), but will also suit the genre of my movie which is psychological thriller.

These are all my ideas for my movie magazine masthead. I did a range of different colour schemes to see what ones I preferred with the different fonts.

Movie Magazine research

I searched on Google Images for different movie magazines, just like I did at AS with music magazines, so that I can use them for inspiration. Some of the most well known ones would be Entertainment, Empire and Total Film. The reason why movie magazines like Empire are so well known is because of their recognisable bright red masthead, which makes them unique as they have always used that font style. The thing that these magazines all have in common are things like colour scheme, they use bright colours that stand out against the magazine, such as red, blue, white and yellow. By following their own individual colour scheme, it makes them both unique and professional, as it doesn't make the cover look messy. It also shows that they all belong to the same genre of magazine.  The actors featured on the magazines also use direct line, making it more appealing to the audience as it targets them. The writing on the magazine in coverlines and streamlines are all teasers for their target audience, as they want them to buy the magazine, in order to promote the movies. These can all inspire me with my own magazine, such as the Wizard cover with the masthead that bends over the actor, as that is interesting and shows that playing with text can be successful on the magazine. It also shows me what fonts are best for this genre of magazine, as well as colours, so then I can make my magazine look like those in that genre so that it fits in.

Picture Edits: Final Print Product Poster

Inline image 2
Above are three different edits of the same image that I might use for my final poster. The first edit looks more lively and happy, which contrasts the reality of the relationship. The Image next to it makes it look darker like it has been taken at night, which relates strongly to the genre psychological thriller. The last one has a lot more edits on it such as filters and blurs, used to cast a shadow across Patrik's face to make him look more mysterious and hidden, suiting his character and the role he plays.

Above are examples of credits at the movie poster. This is an important element to add onto my movie poster that I am making because it will make it look more professional, and will also credit the correct people for the things they have done, such as acting or makeup.  I did research into the movie credits and I drew inspiration from the ones above in order to create my own, so that i got the correct titles such as 'Makeup Arists' or 'Funded By' so that I knew what was important to include. Below are my credits that I created, in a range of different colours that all fit in with the thriller genre I am doing. I tried out different colours to get a feel of what ones look best by each other, so then I would know what one suits my final poster more accurately.
